Make the most of your ebook: how to open, save, print and search PDFs
Back to the Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep home page
Our ebooks are supplied as Adobe PDF files, and we try to make it as easy as possible for you to use them. And it really isn't hard; basically, you can just read the book on your computer screen if you like.
If you are not sure how to use a PDF file (it's easy!) please take a quick look at the notes below. This should solve any problems you may be having.
In the unlikely event that you are still experiencing a problem, we are more than happy to help. Please email us at email@example.com (you will need to type this address into your email system - it is not a live link as we are trying to reduce spam) and we will get back to you as soon as we can. We aim to resolve all queries within two business days.
How do I open the file?
In most cases, the file will simply open in your browser when you click on the download link after you have purchased the ebook. Click here to order the book now!
Note: If you want to avoid the file opening in your browser, just right-click the download link after purchase and select Save Target As... If prompted, choose to Save file. Click Save and the file will be saved to your desktop or other location of your choice on your computer.
What if I can't open it?
You will need Adobe Reader to open and read our digital products. Our ebooks can be opened with Adobe Reader 5.0 and later. In the unlikely event that this free software is not already installed on your computer, or if you have a version of Adobe Reader which is earlier than 5.0, please click on the link below to go to the download page.
Once you are there, click on the Continue button on the right-hand side of the page to begin the download process. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the latest version of Adobe Reader and you should then be able to open the ebook as normal.
Remember to save a copy of the PDF!
It's important to remember to save the PDF to your computer, as you will not always have access to the download link.
Choose File > Save As (or Save A Copy, if Save As is not shown).
In the Save As dialog box, enter the filename and location, and click Save. You can save the file only in PDF format.
I want to print out the document, or print individual pages.
How do I do this?
Click the Print button
, or choose File > Print.
Choose a printer from the menu at the top of the Print dialog box.
For Mac OS, choose an option from the Presets pop-up menu.
In Windows, click Properties to set any additional options available with the printer driver. In Mac OS, set printer driver options in the Print Center.
Indicate which pages you want to print (see below), and then click OK.
Page printing options in the Print dialog box
All Prints all the pages in the document.
Current Page Prints the page which the cursor is on at the time. This is the best way of printing individual pages.
Pages Specifies the range of pages to print in the open PDF. Separate numbers in a range by using a hyphen, and separate multiple pages or ranges by using commas or spaces.
Note that the page numbers within a PDF start from 1 and may not correspond to the actual page numbers shown in the pages of the ebook! Work on the basis of the page numbers shown above the open PDF as you navigate through the document.
To print from a specific page to the end of the document, enter the page with a hyphen. For example, "11-" prints page 11 to the last page of the document.
How to find text in a PDF
The Find toolbar searches the currently open PDF.
|Whole words only
||Finds only occurrences of the complete word you type in the text box. For example, if you search for the word stick, the words tick and sticky aren't found.|
||Finds only occurrences of the words that match the capitalization you type. For example, if you search for the word Web, the words web and WEB aren't found.|
||Also searches the text in the Bookmarks panel.|
||Also searches the text of any comments.|
Reader jumps to the first instance of the search term, which appears highlighted.
Press Enter repeatedly to go to the next instances of the search term.
